911 Dispatcher: 9-1-1. What’s your emergency?
Caller: The land behind our house is on fire! Please come quick!
Unfortunately, drought conditions have made this nightmare a reality for many people in our community this year. The landowners and homeowners in our area heavily rely upon the service of Volunteer Fire Departments, like ours, to respond quickly to save lives, homes and property.
This year alone, Bowman Community Volunteer Fire Department has responded to over 60 calls; sometimes to aid other VFD’s, and sometimes other VFD's assist with our calls.
Bowman Community VFD only receives $10,000 in county funds for the year. All other expenses, repairs and maintenance, supplies, utilities, gas, tires, etc. must be paid for with donations and grants. With the recent volume of calls increasing due to drought conditions, our vehicles and equipment are suffering damages, and our fuel, maintenance and supply expenses have increased, too. Recent expenses:
- Vehicle Repairs $10,000
- Fuel $2,000
- New Tires $440 each
- Wildland Boots $300 pair
- Wildland Pants $300 each
- Wildland Shirts $250 each
Bowman VFD is committed to supporting our communities in their time of need, and we appreciate the community's support in return. Your gift ensures we are fully equipped and have the right tools to respond to calls for assistance if you should ever be in need of help in an emergency.
