WHO WE ARE

Katy's is a home-based sanctuary on 3 acres, that provides a loving home for old and special-needs dogs. We believe every dog deserves a safe, loving home, free from physical and mental neglect and abuse. We believe old and special-needs dogs deserve a life of quality, to be loved and cared for as long as they live. We evaluate each new dog and take care of not only their medical needs, but also their emotional needs. Many of our dogs have been through heartbreaking events and need time and love to recover and trust again. Our goal is for each of our dogs to be happy, to know they are loved and cared for, and to make their golden years as wonderful as we can.  They deserve it.

Caring for our dogs brings us much love and laughter. However, it also takes a lot of hard work and a lot of money. Our highest expense is veterinary bills.  This includes visits, shots, tests, surgeries, medication, heartworm preventative, flea/tick meds and prescription food.   Of course, our dogs also need what every dog needs - a soft bed, toys and treats 😊!  We currently have 50 dogs, including 6 unexpected  pups.

We rely solely on donations and your support during Texoma Gives is so very critical. Our budget is $50,000 per year, and this is our biggest fundraiser.  We have an all-volunteer staff, so all donations go directly to the care and happiness of our dogs.  Please help us to continue caring for these wonderful dogs.  We are so grateful for any amount you can give.

BOBO – The Ambassador

Bobo is 19 and has spent many years with us. Before he became too frail, he was our ambassador – he would welcome and put to ease any new dog that we brought home.  He has never met a person or dog he didn’t like.   He would visit nursing home residents and they loved him.  He is truly the perfect lap dog. His favorite thing to do is to rub his face on the bed/couch and hear us say “don’t rub your dirty face on my bed” – he gets so excited teasing us. He is an old man now and mainly wants to sleep and eat.  He is very spoiled, with chicken in his food and a bite of anything good we are eating.   Which is just what our old man deserves. Thanks for helping us give him a long, happy life.

IN MEMORY

We lost our Prissy Pants this year. She was special to me - independent, tough and fearless, even though she was almost blind and couldn't hear well!  She didn't want to sleep in the little dog room, she wanted to be in my bed with the big dogs. She could see shapes, so we would play in the bed and she would try to get the monster - my hand 😊. She would growl and pounce . We had so much fun together.  She was a nightmare for Karole our groomer, and for us when giving her medicine-  she fought like a tiger!  We were asked to take her and Spike as their Mother had dementia.  She came to us with skin/ear infections, horrible eyes and a bad heart murmur.  We later found out one side of her heart was greatly enlarged and she had a tear inside her heart.  But she never gave up and continued enjoying life.  Prissy took 7 heart pills a day and eye drops.  Without your donations, we would not have been able to afford her meds.  I'll miss our old little girl. She was such a blessing to me.

This is Louie and he loves his chew bones and killing stuffed toys, but his very favorite toy is actually a CAT toy!  And all he does with it is try to hide it under blankets - frantically.  He only gets it once a day and boy, he lets me know when it's time :) !
