Emily's Legacy Rescue (ELR) is named after the Founder's Dalmatian, Emily, who died 7/20/08.  It was after Emily's death that her owner wanted to adopt and save a life.  In July 2014, Emily's Legacy Rescue filed for their Federal Tax ID number and started the process of starting the rescue.  In October 2014, ELR took in it's first animals to be adopted with Demi and her five kittens.

ELR is a fully volunteer/foster-based rescue.  No one receives a salary to help animals in need.  In 2020, ELR pulled 181 cats and 71 dogs from Animal Services (which is about 40% of the rescue rate), 5 cats and 30 dogs from the Burkburnett Shelter, 20 cats from the Iowa Park Shelter and approximately 30 cats as strays or owner surrendered.  ELR has the philosophy of once we receive an animal into our rescue they are ours until they get their forever home.  We receive many messages from the city informing us about animals in need which just come in too young or may have medical issues needing assistance.  We treat for Parvo, heart worms, broken legs, neck wounds, ring worm, etc.  We do not pass on these costs to the adopters.  It is about saving animal's lives and getting them into a forever loving home.

ELR started the Tulip Fund (which is a program of ELR) to provide assistance to owners who have animals with medical needs to ensure they get seen by a vet.  The Tulip Fund was created to help owners keep their pets instead of owner surrendering them to the city shelters because they cannot afford a vet visit.  If we can help stop an animal from being turned into a shelter and keep the animal in it's loving home, it is our goal.

ELR recently moved into a house to create a Cattery to help save more cat lives.  There are several rooms like the kitten room, adult room and room for nursing mom's to get the peace and quite they need.  It allows room in the event a foster cannot be found to save lives at risk.  Again, there is only so much space before it gets filled.  We also needed a facility where fosters can go on vacation and not worry about their foster kitties.  We enjoy people coming to visit to help socialize kittens and give them a little more loving from other people.  We love our volunteers!!

Your donation goes a long way in helping to impact the lives of many 4 legged Wichitans living in our community.  It helps with the vetting costs especially when they are sick and need a little extra help.  Thank you for your support!!
