We depend on grants, fundraisers, and donations to cover our operating expenses. This year, all funds raised during Texoma Gives will go towards a new UTV with Fire Rescue Skid and Trailer. We were awarded a $20,000 grant from through the Texas A&M Forest Service that we are putting towards this project and need to raise an additional $10,000 to help cover the full cost of the skid unit, trailer, and other accessories.
This new addition to our fleet will service multiple purposes for us. This UTV will allow us to better deploy resources in hard to access locations. The UTV will be used to patrol fire lines in areas that normal fire trucks are not able to easily traverse such as dozer lines. The UTV will also allow for quick containment of spot fires, quicker delivery of re-supply drops such as drinking water, food, and fuel, quicker deployment of crews and tools to fire line areas and provide a means to evacuate crews or residents as needed.
In addition to the use on wildland fires, this UTV will also be used for rural search and rescue. We have a 2.8-mile hiking trail (Wichita Valley Rail Trail) that runs through our area, and it is not accessible by any of our trucks or ambulances. This UTV will allow us to render aid quicker and help bring the patient out to a roadway when necessary. A UTV will also be an asset when navigating debris fields while assessing damages and rescuing victims after a natural disaster.
