Founded in 2021 through the start of a “Do good deeds” Facebook Page, Seymour Helping Hands has grown into a Federally accepted 501c3 dedicated to helping Baylor County residents through family oriented events, distribution of basic need items, and more.

What a difference a year makes! Last year when we started with Texoma Gives we were just working to build and open our SHH Community Center.

On Friday, May 3rd Seymour Helping Hands along with the Seymour Chamber of Commerce, SHH Volunteers, and community members celebrated the Grand Opening of the SHH Community Center.  A ribbon cutting was held along with refreshments and a tour of the facility.

SHH started renovating the building in June of 2023. Through the hard work of volunteers and with community support the doors opened with limited hours at the end of November, 2023. From start to finish the building has been a labor of love for the volunteers involved.

With the opening of the Center the community was treated to several new programs designed to help those who may be in need.

New2U Project takes items donated and places them with those that may need them. From household goods, to craft supplies, to books, to appliances and furniture. Nothing is turned away that could help someone else. Clothing is accepted but is donated to the local clothing closet at the Calvary Baptist Church. Some items are also donated to other organizations such as Base Camp Lindsey, located in Wichita Falls, that works to house and assist homeless veterans.

Let's Eat Project assists the community with food needs. SHH has a free community food pantry and works to help keep the local neighborhood food box filled. Monthly thanks to the help of donations from Christian Action Services as well as local community members there is a day of give away in which bread, cereal, and eggs is given. Some days there is also fresh vegetables supplied by local gardeners.  The Let's Eat Project has also expanded to include a program to help those who may be going through surgery recovery, cancer treatment, or other debilitating circumstances by supplying pre-made frozen meals that are easy to fix while they recover.

Little Things Bags- As part of our pantry projects we keep non food items such as light bulbs, hygiene products, household cleaners, and sanitary projects that we give out to those in need.  Often these are the "little things" that can become a luxury when the budget is tight.

As we continue to move into 2024 we are looking forward to creating more programs. We are in the process of working with Region 9 to bring GED classes that are expected to start in September.  We are also working on Senior Social events such as matinee showing of local plays, and small get togethers. During those events transportation will be provided by Sharplines.
