Imagine being in a rural community with limited resources, carrying the weight of trauma, and knowing that the help you so desperately need is financially out of reach. We sought to change that story for victims in rural areas. Since opening our doors in 2018, Affirming Texas Families Services (ATFS) has provided free support to over 1500 victims of crime.

Currently, ATFS offers licensed counseling to victims and their non-offending family members in the  Jack, Young, and Montague County areas. We serve men, women, and children as young as four, offering individual, family, and couples counseling, as well as support groups. Our services include specialized therapies like Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and equine-assisted therapy. We also provide domestic violence support classes, addressing the needs of those impacted by abuse.

All of these programs are provided at no cost, ensuring that everyone in our community, regardless of financial status, has access to the care and support they need.

Why What We Do Matters

  • 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will experience sexual abuse before they turn 18.
  • 80% of these incidents occur in the child’s own home.
  • 1 in 3 victims never tell anyone.
  • 1 in 7 American children face neglect or abuse during their childhood.
  • 80% of child abuse deaths involve children under 3 years old.
  • Every day in the United States, five children lose their lives to neglect or abuse.
  • 15 million children in the U.S. will witness domestic violence each year.
  • 1 in 3 women and 1 in 7 men will be victims of domestic violence.

Victimization transcends gender, race, age, sexual orientation, financial status, and religion. Statistics show that everyone knows at least one victim of crime. Their stories matter, and so does our mission to support them.

Who We Are

Affirming Texas Families Services (ATFS) is dedicated to offering vital support to rural communities. Our licensed counselors provide free counseling services to victims of crime and their non-offending family members, ensuring that financial barriers do not hinder anyone's path to healing. Recognizing the economic challenges many in these communities face, we are committed to making professional counseling accessible to all. Beyond counseling, we actively work to educate the public on recognizing and preventing abuse, aiming to not only heal individuals but also strengthen the communities they call home.
